Every so often I find myself racing along with new images, pictures and graphics almost on a daily basis. Doubly amazing to consider that years ago as an aspiring artist on canvas – new works used to take weeks to complete and one of the reasons I packed it all up – no patience!
A wonderful thing this digital age! Indeed a lifesaver for so many folks these days. I know so many friends and fellow artists, graphic image makers and previous photographers – and from all over the world, who would simply be lost without their computers and softwares. It not only gives this fantastic outlet for their creativity and skills but they meet so, so many new friends and aquaintances from every part of the world
Difficult to imagine what would happen had they NOT managed to use this incredible science, the pc the web and all the software available – I think maybe their extrovert natures would simply introvert and their lives would dumb down and slowly wither like a bloom past it’s prime. Their social friends would also dwindle away and the spectre of old age would soon creep insidiously closer and invade their every moment, clogging their lives.
Goodness – is that boring or what!!!!!
Now this next image would have taken me weeks to complete this on canvas with paint and an easel and brushes and jars of water and mixes and cloths and goodness knows what else – all the paraphernalia of the garret artist! This took almost no time at all – well a day thinking about it and a day to execute between doing other things – as you do. Answering emails from friends and colleagues from all over his planet. Then writing part of an article for a web site on art and another weekly effort regarding Watch collecting which I also dabble in from time to time. Then finishing that short story for a publisher that I’d completely forgotten had a deadline ending soon!
I’m still trying to emulate what I tired to do as an artist by using the computer only and as anyone will tell you – if they’re honest and if they have the slightest knowledge of what they’re talking about – it is NOT that easy to do.
As you see this one is – a”still life” – never easy in real art terms and never easy in the virtual world either – but I quite like it -

I thought the use of a classic frame to hold this was quite apt as it’s such a classical subject. Why so? – Because it looks simple, just a few objects, china, porcelain and glassware on a cloth or a table – indeed everyday items taken absolutely for granted and yet sooo difficult to paint properly.
Like that perennial vase of flowers – oh not that again I hear you say – but show me a really good painted vase of flowers and I’ll show you the back side of the moon in closeup! – it is RARELY seen!
So to get a reasonable facsimilie of the painted still life is a small victory for me and without the torn canvasses and paper drafts chucked in the bin, time and time again. And the wasted paint, time and effort – I mean out of a half dozen, maybe one would be a reasonable effort and possibly commercial – if hung in the right gallery – minus commission of course, which I note these days is even more extortionate now than when I was around that world!
One of the reasons why I had my own little gallery for a time – though now of course the building rent would cripple you in a fortnight! However, water under the bridge as they say!
A couple of days on this computer thing – plus a bit of spare time – then ebay, art web sites, auctions etc etc.
A different world my friend – a truly different world!
These are created completely digitally? Really good, if so! Thanks for sharing!
Usually all images are originally my original photographs, drawings or paintings which I then digitally manipulate with various software filters to create art pictures in various styles. Thanks for looking.
