This winter more than many has got me down a bit.  Prolonged snow, ice and exceptionally low temperatures have made me think of getting away from it all and whilst maybe not this week, I intend going away certainly sometime sooner rather than later.

We all love to have a little getaway, that place where you can get away from it all and relax, chill out and take things slow.  And for me France has always been one of those places and when I say France I don’t mean the cities but rather the rural tucked away areas, where the pace of life is slow, calm and measured.  Where people have the time to say “Bonjour” and stop and chat, no hustle or bustle, then wander into the little Patisserie for coffee with time to discuss the weather, philosophy and politics (the local village kind) in the way only the French can make an art form.

House in France (watercolor sketch style)

This particular place I’m thinking of will have to remain secret for now – but the house is a delight, surrounded by wonderfully fragrant flowers and flowering shrubs in a lovely walled garden.  From the raised garden there are superb views of the river Seine below as it wanders through the peaceful countryside which always makes me feel completely at ease – Oh yes – the perfect getaway.

Above image is a finely drawn and painted watercolor illustration on canvas of the house with it’s walled garden.  The flowers and shrubs spill over in a wonderful profusion of blooms in the summer months.  A beautiful and traditional French style stone house with classic shuttered windows and elevated position overlooks the River Seine on it’s way to the sea.

I can’t wait. . . .
