Every so often we go to the local town market day and whilst my better half looks to buying stuff, I tend to look at the crowds and people watch.  Armed with my little camera I snap away at scenes I think might prove the basis for the odd painting or two.  Once back home I check these out, maybe crop some down to the area of interest I want, discard others and then see what I can make of the ones that are potentials.

Market day

This is one such picture, cropped down considerably from the original view but keeping in the “large” expanse of red and blue on the left side ( I should thank the lady concerned!) and using it as the starting point.  Managed to do this ” paint” image in a rather naive “poster” type illustration, which seems to work with the close-in format of the image.
I used predominantly very bold red, blue and green primary colors and block brush work throughout and particularly like the guy with the blue and black horizontal stripes as you go into the picture (I’m glad you were there Sir!) and then more or less providing a backstop to the image with the heavy block green and black of the trees at the end.

But I haven’t actually been to the market for some time – this was an old picture that I decided to revamp as I was at a loose end today – it snowed again last night and the roads were too bad to travel on anyway – but it has I suppose rekindled my interest in the markets again and I’m sure we’ll visit one soon.  I look forward to it. . . . . . .and Oh yes my better half IS in the picture and no not the expanse of red and blue – she’s the green one. . . .
