This is the pedestrian bridge between the old and new parts of Lucerne, Switzerland. Love this city as firstly it is in a part of Switzerland that I find interesting and secondly as Lucerne itself is a place I like to stay for a while. The Water Tower on the left is a feature of the view and the coloration was simply that I was in Impressionist mood at the time of managing this illustration.
This particular painting is very personal and I used heavy brush strokes with a hint of Pontillism in amongst my own interpretation Impressionist work. A little more intense perhaps than some of my stuff, but with failing eyesight the strong colors allow me to “see” the scene in a more involved manner. I picked out only the strongest colors in the reflection of the wooden construction – the Kapellbrucke (Chapel bridge) which carries the raised and covered pedestrian walkway on top.
A most wonderful tourist walk as it gives two views of Lucerne – the modern and the old. This viewpoint is towards the old part of town which is the area I prefer of course and where I often could be found for a week or two in the summer.
Only memories now of course as health wise trips such as these are perhaps no more. But the paintings bring back so much – it’s almost as good as being there – Well almost. . .
