Portrait of a big nose, big ears and soulful eyes in a field of tall grass – almost camouflaged but watching the watcher, in this case the painter. These lovely creatures can stand so still for such a long time they perhaps are natures “sitters” for an artist.
Managed in a brush style but with due attention to the features, eyes, ears and nose to ensure the integrity of the live posture of this wonderful animal. Too impressionist would have ruined the look, so a very much more pictorial rendition here. The colors determined by the subject and the long grass and shrub background which very effectively hides the body from view. Only the black muzzle and the bright flashes on the large ears giving position away to the careful observer.
One of a series of nature images I have been working on recently and the first of a few I hope to post here in the coming weeks.

I am in love with this!!! When I stepped away from the computer to let my dog in, I glimpsed over my shoulder at the painting and thought I was looking a live deer. How well you have accomplished a vision that endlessly fascinates me; a deer in dappled light, merging with leaves and branches.
Lovely!

One of my favorite creatures and one of a series I managed some time ago – many thanks for your comment and so pleased you liked it.
