Graphic illustration of a Kingfisher bird managed in an unusual style. Black background and golden general coloration with flecks of white and blue make this a striking wall pictorial.
An interesting observation about Kingfishers is in reference to their amazing color. The wonderful iridescence is a result of wavelength interference of the reflected light coming from alternate layers of feather and we see flashes of vivid blues, greens and orange. However the true color of the bird is actually brown!
There are of course many images and paintings of these wonderful birds as the colors are so striking, but for this image I decided to try another, different interpretation.
Here I’ve chosen not to highlight the common view of the Kingfisher. Rather I’ve used the true bird color as the base for the entire image with just a hint of the iridescence, which we most often see as this vivid flashing spectrum of color as it swoops down from it’s favorite perch to the water to snap up a small fish.
Once again as is true in all forms of art – the difference is in the interpretation.
