A colorful paint to canvas of a street scene I think in Arles in Provence, France. I traveled extensively in the region a year or so back and my records are sketchy to say the least, but I think this is where it was. A wonderful sunny day and the little shops had such bright colors it gave an inspiration to manage an art piece again.
I opted this time to produce a painting managed directly to canvas with no sketch underneath, as the colors, the textures and the wonderful French sunlight gave such inspiration on that day I could not help myself. The result is actually very classic and of the time – an older time perhaps and maybe long gone, but one I find incredibly rewarding. Perspective wise I’m reasonably pleased with the result, though the tall corner building has a slight distortion even though the verticals are – well vertical. The slight alteration that I see now probably the result of borrowing my Wife’s sunglasses which were quite awful as far as the prescription was concerned! They are these vari-focal things, which I also detest as they give added distortions of vision. I would normally paint with plain glass lenses but being so bright I had to wear something and these were the only option to hand.
Anyway here it is and I’m not displeased with it at all – in fact I rather like it…. (it is in fact about one of a dozen or so pictures I have managed of this town and it’s becoming one of my favorite spots to paint!)

i love the colours
great work
Amazing! J’adore
The colours and light are beautiful in this, and I love the softness of the textures.
Thanks Val, it was fun doing and has to be one of my favorite places simply for the light.
