Certain places have a wonderful menory for me and one such spot is Lake Vaccares and where I saw my first Camargue white horses. On this vast lake also called La Grand Mar, it is more or less surrounded by the Petit-Rhône and Grand-Rhône rivers, as well as the sea. A quite fantastic place, a brine lake, and wildlife abounds within it’s shallow waters which are over 8 miles long and cover something like 16,000 acres.
This picture was inspired by that first view and is a gentle classic painting.
This image shows mother and foal and it still fascinates me that the foals are dark brown and sometimes black, yet as they grow into maturity they turn into this wonderful white color. This is another of these parts of France that I love for the clarity of light and even better is the fact that the wines of the region are also pretty wonderful – so all in all not a bad place to be.
