Found a whole pile of watercolor sketches done when I visited Chester last year. When traveling I tend to carry a camera (a small Lumix F27) and a small drawing pad notebook. I use both as a memory aid and either jot down quick sketches accompanied by a snap photograph of the same spot or as often is the case and I have time, I do both.
This one is from Eastgate Street towards The Eastgate, one of the original entries to the town on the town wall. The Grosvenor Hotel is to the right and where I tend to stay when in this area.
Under sketch with watercolor washes and slightly overdone or saturated colors as usual (for me) and I show the photograph I also took at the time in the slide show at the end of the post.
Still in Eastgate Street, this is formerly a Bank, but now a retail shop, though as architectural vision is something else! A quite superb building with it’s typical Chester period style.
My viewpoint here is on top of the city wall above the Eastgate itself, the Grosvenor Hotel on the left and Eastgate Street ahead.
So very localized images I know, and close to my hotel, but that day I was struggling walking, so close stuff was the only option. It did however give me time to get the notebook and camera out and record the scenes.
Managed around 15 different illustrations over the next couple of days and hope to post some at a later date.
